5-Day Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari Itinerary
Witness the raw, untamed beauty of East Africa on our 5-Day Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari. This carefully curated journey takes you through the most legendary wildlife destinations on the planet, offering a front-row seat to the greatest natural spectacles in Tanzania.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Land of the Giants
Depart Arusha for Tarangire, a park dominated by the majestic “Upside-down Trees” (Baobabs) and the Tarangire River. Wildlife: Witness some of Africa’s largest elephant herds. Keep a sharp eye on the trees for tree-climbing pythons and leopards. Activities: Afternoon game drive focusing on the riverbanks where wildlife congregates to drink.
Day 2: Tarangire to Central Serengeti – The Endless Plains
After breakfast, drive through the lush Ngorongoro Highlands and descend into the vast, rolling grasslands of the Serengeti. Wildlife: Observe Maasai giraffes, ostriches, and topis as you enter the park. Activities: Scenic transit with “game viewing en route” and an evening golden-hour game drive as you head to your camp.
Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park – Predator Territory
A day dedicated to the heart of the Serengeti (Seronera Valley). Wildlife: This is the best place to find leopards resting on granite kopjes (rock outcrops) and cheetahs scanning the plains for gazelles. Look out for the resident lion prides and large pods of hippos in the Retima Pool. Activities: Early morning and late afternoon game drives; optional dawn hot air balloon safari for a bird’s-eye view of the plains.
Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands – The Cradle of Mankind
Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before heading toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Wildlife: Spot spotted hyenas, jackals, and Grant’s gazelles in the short-grass plains. Activities: A stop at Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites, to learn about early human evolution. Evening arrival at the crater rim for spectacular sunset views.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Descend 600 meters into the crater floor for a high-intensity morning of wildlife viewing. Wildlife: This is your best chance to spot the rare Black Rhino. See massive bull elephants, prides of lions, and thousands of flamingos in Lake Magadi. Activities: 6-hour crater tour with a picnic lunch on the crater floor, followed by a scenic drive back to Arusha for your evening departure.
